Aims of the course

Pattisons Three Year Musical Theatre Course prepares students aged 16+ for careers both as performers and teachers. We recognise that the commercial theatre demands an all round training to enable students to enter their chosen profession with the necessary skills and qualifications in dance, drama and singing.

What will I study?

Year 1 - Foundation Course where subjects which may be new to the students are introduced. These include:

• Ballet
• Modern/Jazz
• Free Jazz/ Freestyle
• Contemporary
• Tap
• Ballroom & Latin American
• Limbering & Body conditioning
• Anatomy
• Improvisation
• Speech
• Drama
• Singing - Group & Private Tuition
• Audition technique
• Gymnastic dance
• Choreography

Years 2 & 3

Timetables are constructed to meet the student's individual needs through consultation with the Course Director. The progress of each student continues to be closely monitored.

Will I take examinations?

Yes, students are encouraged to take external examination both as performers and where the necessary standards have been achieved, as teachers in recognised examination boards. At the end of the course a good hardworking student should leave with a minimum of four Associates (the first teaching examination) in various types of dance, as well as qualification in drama and singing.

What examination boards are studied?

• Ballet: R.A.D., I.D.T.A.
• Tap  I.D.T.A.
• Modern: I.D.T.A.
• Ballroom/ Latin American  I.D.T.A.
• Drama:  L.A.M.D.A. (Bronze, Silver & Gold Medal in Speech & Drama & Acting).
• Singing: London College of Music
